By Terry lipsticks-worth the splurge?

By Terry
By Terry is one of the really luxury high end brands.  Their products can be eye wateringly expensive but I have rarely tried one I haven't loved.
I reviewed and loved the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder, the Rouge Terrybly lipstick in Pink Party and the Densillis Blush in Platonic Blonde.  I think at this price point you are going to have strong feelings either way about whatever you buy.

I haven't loved everything though-I think the Ombre Blackstar eyeshadow sticks are average at best-I much prefer the Trish McEvoy 24hr eyeshadow and liner sticks and the By Terry Cellular rose blush glace were poorly pigmented.

Today I share three of the lipstick formulas I own and tell you whether I think they're worth the splurge or not.  I bought all of mine from Space NK.

By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge in 2 Mango Tango £26.

First up the Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge in 2 Mango Tango £26.

Costing the same as the average Dior/Chanel/Guerlain lipstick I expected big things from something branded as a sheer lipstick.  And it definitely delivers.  I was a little dubious at first because they can be a little forgiving if applied to very dry lips but once I had sloughed off the dead skin this formula is an absolute winner.

It's light and balm like and incredibly hydrating and has become a permanent fixture in my handbag.  It's shiny and plumps up my pout and lasts a surprising length of time for a sheer, balmy formula.  I would liken the formula to the Dior Rouge Dior Baume lipsticks.

I'd classify this as the perfect, easy to wear weekend lipstick.

If the Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge is the perfect weekend lipstick then surely the By Terry Terrybly Rouge lipstick is the grown up office version.  At £33.50 these are incredibly high end and into Tom Ford territory.  I chose 100 Terrybly Nude but I find this a very grey toned on me and not very flattering.  It's funny because Laura and I were talking about this lipstick and Tom Ford Lip Shine in Bare at brunch recently (review coming soon....) and she loves both whereas both on me pull too grey.

I have been so incredibly disappointed with this lipstick.  The formula is so soft that every time I use it the bullet is just disintegrating and it has become unusable.  Smushed.  The formula has become so overly creamy that it sits as a thick layer of product on my lips.  I do live in a hot country where the room temperature is probably higher than that in the UK but none of my other lipsticks are like this.  Even my other By Terry Terrybly Rouge from the exact same range doesn't do this-in fact Party Pink is one of the best lipsticks I have ever used.

By Terry Velvet Rouge Gypsy Rose

Finally the By Terry Velvet Rouge-£30-your going out lipstick.  I have the shade 6 Gypsy Rose which is a vibrant purple tone-kind of similar to MAC Rebel (but double the price...).

I like this lipstick but I don't love love it.  I pair it with a lip liner (here I used MAC Heroine) because it is a liquid lipstick which can get a bit messy.  The hourglass shaped applicator makes it surprisingly easy to apply and the formula is smooth and even as well as being opaque.  What I find a little weird though is that the lipstick never seems to set which is unusual in a liquid lipstick.  It doesn't bleed but it's very transferable.  The fade is relatively even and it doesn't dry the lips but I just wish it dried down more to make it less high maintenance.

My pick would be the Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge from these three if you do want to splurge.  Despite the Terrybly Rouge being such a disappointment I have to say that the other one I have is exceptional-maybe I just got one from a bad batch.

Have you tried anything from By Terry?

By the way you may have noticed things look a little different here over the past couple of days.  I decided to buy a pipdig template and then tweak it a bit-I am really happy so far with the result and the ease of which it was to fiddle around with.  Hope you like it too!  Please do let me know if there is anything you don't like or doesn't look right to you xx
